Ellen Jacobs is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist with over 40 years of experience helping children find their “sparkle”–the unique strengths that help them communicate, grow, and thrive.

With a PhD in Applied Linguistics, an MS in Speech-Language Pathology, and board certifications in child language (ASHA) and structured literacy (IDA), Ellen combines deep expertise with a heart-centered approach. As the founder of the Reading & Speech Clinic, she supported countless families in transforming communication challenges into meaningful progress through compassionate, practical strategies.
Now retired from full-time clinical practice, Ellen brings her love of children, storytelling, and creativity into a new chapter of work–one that blends nature, play, and learning under a new name: Reading & Speech, Leaf & Loom. As a writer, designer, and educator, she creates whimsical children’s stories, handmade playwear, and interactive experiences that spark curiosity, empathy, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
At the heart of Ellen’s work is a belief in the power of connection–between children and their caregivers, between play and learning, and between people and the planet. Her mission is to nurture each child’s unique gifts through joyful, imaginative experiences where lessons are lived, not just learned.
Whether through storytelling, hands-on play, or lovingly crafted materials, Ellen invites children into a world of wonder–where creativity blooms, communication grows, and every child can shine.
