About

Hello! I’m Ellen Jacobs

The youngest of four kids, I’m still known in my family as Ellie. But Ellen means “Light,” and sometimes I think of myself as “Sparkle Light,” a name given to me by author Susan Kennedy in 2010. Through my professional work, and my interactions and art, I love helping children find their own sparkle and express it brightly.

Throughout my 30+ year career as a nationally certified speech-language pathologist, I have become known as an “expert” in helping children to…

…find their inner sparkling abilities in talking, listening, expressing, reading, and writing

…bring their abilities to the forefront

…overcome their struggles and start enjoying themselves.

I’m inviting you to join me in helping your child, or any child who is close to your heart. I’ve written articles and created programs that provide a powerful, grounded, and practical approach to helping children, and assisting parents and caregivers in transforming their child’s hurts into helps.

Through my life-long journey of personal growth I’ve come to know that…

…My purpose in this world is to try to be a light in the darkness, for children who may be suffering from challenges related to communication, and for the adults who love them

…I work at this this through my safe presence, my teaching, and my art

…I am pretty creative, have a knack for language and can offer a good listening ear

…I believe that God’s spirit is present in all people and that they can overcome their own stumbling blocks when they are given the opportunity to harness the power of their innate gifts.

Through my lifetime of study, work experience and skill development, I’ve earned some worthwhile credentials, including…

…PhD in Applied Linguistics

…MS in Speech-Language Pathology

…Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

…ASHA Board Certification as a Child Language Specialist

…International Dyslexia Association Certified Structural Literacy Teacher

…Certified Coach in Child and Adult Self-Esteem

…Former Oregon Representative for the International Dyslexia Association, Early Childhood Care and Education Committee Chair for NeighborImpact, and Member of the Board of Directors for NeighborImpact (NeighborImpact is a non-profit organization in Central Oregon for helping families access skills for success, family services, financial assistance, food, housing, heat and energy assistance.)

I created the Reading and Speech Clinic because I wanted to empower adults and children to be better communicators.  I’ve seen many resources out there that lead good people to focus on what’s “wrong” with them– not on what’s right with them.  And some programs isolate the “problem” from everything and everybody in order to try to “fix it.”

Instead, I love helping children to freely express their beautiful essence as it is, and to learn and grow from a place of high self-esteem. And I like training people like you—the significant others in children’s lives—to do what I do, because the biggest and quickest results happen when we work TOGETHER to help your child.

If you are a parent, grandparent, or other caregiver and want to encourage a child to grow in speech, language or literacy development, the Reading and Speech Clinic can help. Let’s begin by email by signing up for a free mini-assessment. By participating, you will discover your child’s precious gems in the areas of Talking, Listening, Expressing, Reading, Writing, Mind, Body, and Spirit. You will find out which gems are currently shining in your child, and which ones might need a bit more polishing. Start

There’s so much more to share, so I invite you to join me today!

Sincerely,
Ellen
